In Sydney, Australia the Jessie Street National Women’s Library has a mission to provide a specialist collection which preserves and promotes the cultural heritage of Australian women. A collection of journals, oral histories and posters, offer an inspiring place to trace your roots, find solidarity in stories of determination and keep women’s words and works alive and powerful.

In Alice Springs the Women’s Museum of Australia contains over 2500 objects relating to women’s history and the HerStory Archive contains files on over 1500 influential women first in their field.

Honouring women’s stories isn’t only about the past - it deepens our understanding of ourselves and fuels our courage to write our own chapters.

It’s easy to get caught up in the day to day and lose ourselves. Make right now a time to remember who you are and where you came from, to celebrate your being and anchor you to your life journey.

Small daily rituals can help you ground and find stillness in the midst of a busy life. Check out this 2 part blog I recently published on daily rituals to transform your mindset and wellbeing.

Here, I have put together a few simple, yet powerful rituals you can weave into your life to anchor your journey and celebrate your being.

  • Write a letter to your younger self:

    • Sit quietly, light a candle and write a letter to your younger self.

    • Acknowledge the pain, the victories, the dreams lost and found.

    • Offer the compassion you needed back then.

    • Fold the letter and keep it somewhere safe, or if you’re ready, release it with gratitude.

    • Create a small ritual to let it go - perhaps burning it, releasing it into water or burying it under a tree.

  • Create a memory alter:

    • Dedicate a small corner, a shelf or a tray, to meaningful objects.

    • It might hold photos, a flower from someone special, a stone that reminds you of a breakthrough moment or a handwritten note of affirmation.

    • Visit your alter when you need strength or connection.

    • Perhaps you sit quietly with the objects and offer a silent acknowledgment of your journey to now.

  • Blessingway Ritual for self-nurture.

    • Derived from the traditional Navajo inspired practice, this is a ceremony of community and care.

    • Whilst it often honours a mother-to-be, a Blessingway can be adapted for your own empowerment.

    • Invite a few women you trust to honour you by sharing affirmations, stories, small gifts and blessings that nourish your heart and spirit.

    • Research suggests that such rituals, rooted in connection and storytelling, can restore confidence and inner peace.

  • Daily rituals of grounding:

    • Simple daily practices can ground you in your own being and replenish your strength.

    • Try rising with the sun, read more about the benefits of this practice here.

    • Journaling each evening can be very therapeutic; it doesn't have to perfect, just authentic.

    • Cultivating a meditation practice can be a game changer, not for the faint hearted!

    • Connect with nature by walking regularly and really noticing the world around you.

  • Gather in a circle:

    • Powerful remembrance and empowerment happen in community.

    • Look out for local events such as this Women’s Gathering in Aldinga.

    • Read the book Calling the Circle to learn more about this subject.

    • Gather informally with friends for a simple ritual - share stories, drink tea, read cards and set intentions.

    • Gathering with other women can create a nourishing container for remembering your own worth and celebrating that of others.

To further support empowerment and healing I’ve gathered some Australian-based resources which support and celebrate all women.

  • Our Watch and National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety.

    • These organisations lead research-backed efforts to prevent violence against women and children and the safety and wellbeing of women across the country.

  • Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

    • This initiative offers professional development, English-language classes and creative workshops to women seeking asylum, helping them find their voice and build community.

  • Caritas Australia.

    • Through partnerships and programs, Caritas promotes the wellbeing, participation and leadership of women, both in Australia and abroad.

  • Australian Women’s Register.

    • An online, searchable database documenting both women and women’s organisations in Australia. Perfect for inspiration, research or tribute.

  • Women’s Art Register.

    • Based in Melbourne, this artist-run collective, archives and promotes women’s art - championing creative expression and visibility.

  • SA’s Women’s Week.

    • Aligned with the 2025 UN Women Theme, this first SA Women’s Week celebrated the achievements of women and girls across South Australia.

Remember celebrating your worth isn’t just a one off; it’s an ongoing journey.

It can be lovely to integrate regular practices into your life. Favourites of mine include daily intention setting on my yoga mat, trying out craft projects with friends and journaling. I can help you brainstorm but you might like to consider:

  • Monthly reflections:

    • At the end of each month, light a candle and journal your achievements.

    • Reflect on what you learned and how you’re integrating new knowledge.

    • Recognise how you showed your strength.

    • Write or speak what you want for yourself in the upcoming month.

  • Nature walks with intention:

    • Take walks where each step is paired with an affirmation.

    • Repeat ‘I am enough’, ‘I am creative’, ‘I am worthy’.

    • Let the earth become your companion in affirming your strength.

  • Art and Expression:

    • Create vision boards.

    • Dance, paint, write…..whatever helps you express what being a woman means to you.

    • Let your creativity be both a mirror and a window into your inner world.

  • Share stories:

    • Join a women’s storytelling circle or create one.

    • Share a moment when you felt powerful or overcame a challenge.

    • Listening and speaking are both potent forms of remembrance.

You are not separate from power - you’re it’s expression.

Every breath you take, every challenge you meet, every kind word you offer to yourself or another reverberates with worth and strength.

Let remembrance be your source or renewal.

Let ritual be your mirror and your compass.
